Center for Green Building first opened in 2005 in historic Black Rock, CT. Co-founders Erin Buckley and Jonathan Tuminski were concerned about the rise of asthma, allergies and cancer, especially with a new born baby in the house. Through years of research, they found that the increase in these maladies followed the same trajectory of the increase in chemicals in every day products. These chemicals are found in insulation, paints, stains, sealers, carpeting, cleaning supplies and more. Having a young family and carpentry business, they made the commitment to supplying healthy and environmentally friendly products to the general public, in their retail store.
The products found at Center for Green Building go through a series of steps before being added to the product line. First, the manufacturer goes through our review. We prefer to carry products that are from companies who are also committed to environmentally friendly living. Then, the product goes through a life cycle analysis; we analyze what the raw (or recycled) materials are, where they are being sourced, how they get transported, how they get used, and how they get properly disposed of. All of our manufacturers must submit their Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS). The MSDS are carefully reviewed to ensure that all of the ingredients are disclosed. Lastly, the products are field tested by our team of tradesmen to guarantee that they work as they claim.
By purchasing products at Center for Green Building, you are making a positive contribution to your health, using products that are gentle on the environment, and supporting a family owned business ~ and for that, we thank you.
"If anyone ever asks me about my experience working with you, I would have to tell them that you are dedicated to creating a product of the highest quality and that your integrity is second to none."Trey V.
